Shure SRH1540 Premium Closed Back Headphones

Amazing sounding headphones. Wide soundstage, fantastic mids and tight bass. Comes with fantastic accessories like the hard case, spare cable and pads which even at this price, most competitors fail to provide. I've owned everything from high end Grados like the PS500e, sennheiser 660s2 to even the focal utopia which is a great headphone in its own right but not worth the exorbitantly high asking price. My search for a closed back portable headphone had now ended. I will be purchasing the SRH1840 for home use if these are anything to go by they should be amazing.

Amazing sound. Neutral to slightly warm. For context, these are the first step-up in sound quality from the Grado SR325e (acknowledging the difference in open bs closed back design)

Recent purchase of Shure closed back headphones, after initial order delay product arrived and I have been using for approx 3 weeks, early days yet but they are a big improvement on my previous AKG headphones. There is a huge amount of clarity and depth in the sound presentation. They clearly highlight poor recordings. Only niggle, you have to remove the cable from each ear piece when you place them back in their storeage case otherwise 5 star.

Fine audiophile headphones with excellent spatial separation for gaming, as well. I await a headphone amp and DAC to fully appreciate the capabilities!

These are good closed back headphones with nice smooth bass, great vocal representation and (my pet hate) no sibilance. They are firm on your head and being closed back your ears can get warm but they are comfortable for long listening sessions. Shire headphones all seem to use a proprietary cable (I have some in ear ones which also do this) and they can transmit sound to the ear pieces if they physically touch something but in general I like them compared to many of the rubberised offerings out there. I would buy these again and really enjoy the combination of detail and smoothness they offer - though they benefit from a good amplifier.
