Quality product that did the job after firstly trying cheaper alternatives that just didn't work. Have now transferred hours and hours’ worth of VHS to the PC using this product without any problems.

setup is a Samsung 8-series with a PNY P600 & it's (currently) flawless. if you're looking for something similar, it's also the current cheapest known brand.

This did not give 4K at 60Hz when I used it with my 2015 MacBook Pro (from work) and a Sony 4K TV. It only gave 4K at 30Hz. So it is certainly not "plug and play" as advertised, at least when used with this laptop. I already have a Club3D CAC-1170 adapter for use with a personal 2015 MacBook Pro laptop which is identical to my work one. That adapter definitely delivers 4K 60Hz from these laptops, although only after messing around with SwitchResX per the instructions. I had bought this StartTech one because it promised to be plug and play. I wanted to get 4K 60Hz without having to install SwitchResX on my work laptop. As it isn't plug and play, I've now returned this StarTech adapter.

I've used quite a few different StarTech products and always had good luck with them. They are an amazing resource for solving unique hardware problems. In this case, this USB 3.0 adapter can be used to quickly add a VGA display to your system if you're out of VGA ports (or your machine doesn't have VGA). The setup was pretty quick. If your operating system doesn't recognize the device and automatically install the drivers, you can load them from the CD provided in the box. Then plug in the adapter to a USB 3.0 port and connect your monitor to the VGA port. It works fantastic. You can use this on a notebook or desktop machine, I didn't test it on a USB hub though. Some USB peripherals are finicky when you run them through a hub. I have a hunch though that StarTech has a good powered USB 3.0 hub that would work if you're running short on USB 3.0 ports. I was provided this item for review.
