The competitively priced Kingston XS1000 external SSD is tiny and still manages to offer solid performance, but without ruggedization or hardware-based encryption, it's not quite the perfect travel companion.

The XS1000 doesn’t stand out as anything new, and its lack of hardware encryption or USB-A cable undermines the business user premise. It performs well enough and has a 5-year warranty, which might be ideal for those dumping their SanDisk drives.

Just like its faster sibling, the XS2000 , Kingston's latest external SSD, the XS1000 is tiny. Never mind pocket-sized, at just 69.54 x 32.58 x 13.5mm and weighing in at a mere 30g (thanks to its metal and plastic construction), it's small enough and light enough to get lost in a pocket. At the time of writing, just two capacities make up the XS1000 product line, 1TB and 2TB, the latter model we are reviewing here.

For the average user, the low price of this good every day performing 10Gbps SSD is the prime selling point. But its slow long write render it unsuitable for video editing and the like.
