I read that others said this hood was not necessary for the EF-M 22mm. However, I disagree, it may be small but it protects the lens from stray light and also keeps the lens safer in case of hard knocks. The 22mm is very small and lightweight and needs all the protection it can receive from the owner.

but it does. Purchased for EF-M 22mm and just this little bit of protection helps.

I was hoping this would work as a compact alternative to the Voightlander 35mm f/1.4. The Voightlander shade is huge, the Canon is a perfect, even with the Voightlander 35mm f/3.5 super small shade.

I purchased this lens hood because I feel that using a hood is always a good idea. Even though this hood is inexpensive by Canon standards, I am not sure how effective it is in reducing lens glare, etc.; It is very shallow. Also, the screw-on attachment method is cumbersome to use.

I was tempted to write this is nothing but a filter without the glass. Actually, it is more than that and is well-constructed. But I would rather have a screw-in rubber lens hood which can be collapsed than this. I question how much stray light it is keeping away from the lens.
