Flash timing is very important in photographing water drop collisions. The SU-800 was purchased to allow the use of two SB-5000 flashes, but the SU-800 does not provide consistent timing. After getting an AS-10, SC-26 and an SC-28, two flashes can be used and provide the accurate timing needed to capture water drops. Otherwise the SU-800 is a great unit.

This is a perfect unit for the Nikon SB r-200 wireless remotes. I place the batteries in, attached it to the shoe mount, put all units on the same channel and it worked perfectly. I have it on my Nikon D 800 and it is a must have for ring flash photography. I thought the camera had a built in remote but it did not work with the SB-R200 units. I am very pleased with this. If I knew earlier I would have bought the complete kit from the start.

I use it to control three SB-910 and two SB-600 flash, it works perfectly. Tip: As the CR123A battery is not included, do not forget to request it in your order!!

The SU-800 has been around a long time but Ive managed without since my earlier Nikons all had built-in Commander which worked well enough for me needs. Then I upgraded to a D850 which elimated the built-in commander and rendered my older flash units obsolete. So I had to buy the SU 800 to continue using them. There are cheaper 3rd party substitutes available but I stuck with the Nikon brand just because.

I ended up ordering this unit to go with my D850 since it no longer has a pop up flash that can be used for a commander. Seems to work well with my SB-910s. No misfires or issues. Note: mine did not come with a paper manual or a battery (CR123). You will want to order or pick one of these up if you get this unit. Found an online manual (SB-R200_EU(En)10.pdf) that contained the instructions for using it.
