Monster Hunter: Generations Ultimate Switch

Cubed3 Rating Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is an acquired taste that long-standing fans of the franchise will happily drink from. The formula for killing monsters and turning them into better gear to take on the bigger monsters is an addictive loop that is only broken up by the mindless and annoying 'egg delivery' quests, and occasional battle control limitations. Whether playing online with a group of friends or in Solo mode, this is a menu-heavy experience that may easily scare away series newcomers who are used to Monster Hunter: World . While Ultimate is not a streamlined experience, beneath the thick and scary exterior is an extremely deep system-based epic adventure.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is only the second Monster Hunter game I have played. The biggest problem with this is that the first was Monster Hunter World. Why is this a problem? Well, that one is ten times the game that this new one is.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is a hard game to recommend. Series veterans and anyone who skipped Generations on the 3DS will find a lot to enjoy, but newcomers to the series, especially those who played World, will struggle to get past the clunky controls and inaccessible design choices. There's a good game here, it's just obscured at times by its 3DS origins, and more often than not feels like a huge step backwards.

Clairement, ce n'est pas le Monster Hunter que l'on voudrait sur Switch. Comme d'un autre temps, Monster Hunter Generation Ultimate essaie vraiment de faire évoluer la licence, mais ne parvient pas à la cheville de ce qu'un Monster Hunter World a pu proposer. Malgré tout, en tant que représentant d'un autre temps, il parvient tout de même à faire un travail assez correct. Ce n'est pas un mauvais jeu... Juste un jeu qui n'a pas bien choisi son moment de sortie.

Se nourrissant de la fibre des Monster Hunter, Generations Ultimate est un « best of » qui mise sur sa générosité et son exigence. Bien loin des standards visuels du moment, le titre de Capcom souffre de lacunes techniques évidentes et aurait mérité un meilleur traitement. Bien que long à maîtriser et d’une rigidité d’un autre temps, il offre un challenge passionnant pour quiconque parvient à dompter son gameplay et ses à-côtés. Archaïque mais tellement délicieux, que ce soit en solo ou en multijoueur.
