I think it was an option when people didn't have cell phones. Today you can buy a satellite hotspot and send messages much easier with your own phone. User interface is very hard to use it. The support team won't explain and will point you to promotional videos and blog posts that don’t help much. Buy a satellite hotspot instead.

The app often fails to pull messages from the device. The battery life is about 1/3 of the advertised battery life even if I turn off all tracking features. I reported several bugs to garmin almost 2 years ago, none have been fixed. I don't think garmin actually has a support staff working on bugs or features. They are only doing the minimal work to keep the app on the app store. On the good side, it does send messages.

I really tried hard to make this product work. It is very user unfriendly in my opinion. The instructions are terrible lm going to return this and just take my chances outdoors. Before you all respond its not a cell phone, I know. That’s not what I intended it to be

Havent needed to use this yet, but its good peace of mind. Costs about $18 a month with a $100 start up fee to activate and keep going.
