I have used and owned many different 35mm lenses on Leica digital and film Ms, including the Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 which is its strongest competitor. This one is the best. It is f/1.4, compact, and the optical performance is plenty good on my 24mp camera and will likely still be good enough if a higher-resolution M camera comes to market. I am regularly amazed by how sharp it is wide open. The Zeiss f/1.4 has less distortion and better edge performance at wide apertures, but I chose the Leica for its superior size and ergonomics. I regret owning other 35mm lenses instead of buying this one from the start.

The 35mm FLE is probably the totem of Leica, the only con of this lens is the price tag, but it well worth the premium. It's my daily walk-around lens since the 35mm is the most versatile focal length. The optic quality of this lens is beyond superb, corner to corner sharpness across all the aperture, the color rendition is also amazing.

If you are a 35mm shooter, don't hesitate on buying this lens. Its worth every dollar. And don't be scared if the aperture ring goes further on the f1.4 stop. Leica actually measures the exact position where the ring should stop to be exactly f1.4
