This was a genuine Nikon hood. Expensive for what it is but then what isn't these days.

I have been using the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens some time now and I say it is a nice lens to use for landscape photos. I like its versatility to be able to use in both landscape and portraits, which is very efficient for a wedding photographer like me.

I picked this up used as a replacement all rounder zoom for a D700. I had been using a 24-85 3.5-4.5 (non VR) which is a very good zoom. I have been happy with the results especially at the wide end. The lens provides very good pictures on the D700. It also works well on my other Nikon camera bodies: D300s, and F100. I have not noticed any build related performance issues with this lens, but I did pick it up used from a company that routinely tests and services their lenses so I'm assuming any alignment issues were fixed.

After reading many pro and con reviews on this lens I recently purchased via B&H. It is light and compact and appears to be very sharp. I also have the 18-35 mm for landscape and this lens gives much more reach and is lighter to carry. I also hope to use for family photos and close ups. With the 24-120 range its seams ideal for a travel lens and general walk around lens. So far, I really like it- the only reason for not 5 stars is that I have had limited use and have not done a large print yet.

Lesson learned at a cost. Got the lens but did not try it until it was too late to return. Never again will I do that. Im usually a Sigma person but decided to take the plunge for better glass. Lucky me I found the one Nikon lens that has vignetting and distortion. One of these days I might sell but will probably get very little for a lens I have used just a few times.
