Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 17 mm f/1.8 Noir

I didn\'t expect much from this lens, but I\'m quite satisfied. Yes, it is soft in corners wide open and at f2.8 (it is mainly due to focal plane curvature). But from f4.0 it is decently sharp from corner to corner, on par with M.Zuiko 12-45 f4 PRO. Recommended, otherwise you don\'t need border sharpness at wide apertures.

Honestly, for street shooting and a general 35mm equiv lens, there is not much you can do better without going bigger.

Good Points: Sharp, edge to edge. Good all rounder, indoors and outdoors. Small and light. Olympus' manual focus 'clutch'. Improvement Points: No weather sealing

Good Points: Compact, reasonably fast “normal” wide-angle lens with sharp and good image quality. Improvement Points: Don’t stop down below f16. No lens hood or bag included.

Really wanted to love this lens since it looks and feels like a little jewel. First thing I discover is that copy to copy variations is huge. I\'ve had 7 copies in 3 years, made in China and made in Vietnam. 2 were very good, 3 good to average and 2 quite poor including 1 with extreme decentering. The lens renders in a smooth gentle way, not very contrasty but I like it. Sharpness at close and medium distance is usually very good. At infinity, depends if your sample is good or not. With precise focusing on a good sample, you will probably be able to get good edge to edge sharpness at f/2,8. To sum up, this is a good lens with nice mechanics but don\'t expect it to be razor sharp, or you\'ll have to be very lucky.
