Sigma Objectif hybride 16-28mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary pour monture L

The Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary is a standout wide-angle zoom for Sony E-mount shooters, delivering impressive optical performance at a price that undercuts the competition significantly. Sharpness is excellent across the frame even wide open, chromatic aberration is well-controlled, and the quiet STM autofocus system makes it equally capable for stills and video. At around 450g, it is compact and well-balanced for its class, and the build quality feels premium without being unnecessarily heavy. The 28mm maximum focal length may give some pause compared to 35mm alternatives, but for landscape, architecture, and travel photographers who can work within that range, this lens offers extraordinary value and optical quality that rivals lenses costing twice as much.

I have been using this lens for two years and had initially refrained from reviewing as I had some focus issues that I was not too sure about. They were only occurring in very specific conditions (far away subject, lens wide open) and I had assumed it might be "normal". Anyway, I got the lens checked by sigma and they very kindly recalibrated the focus (warranty was 3 years when I bought it). It's now tack sharp in ALL conditions and despite being used to prime lenses I'm super impressed and find myself using exclusively this lens when travelling. At this size and weight, it does not have any serious competitors so unless you love wide-ish angle (I don't), this lens gives you so much (money and space for starters) in exchange of these 4mm.

This was a purchase made alongside a Sony A7III, as I was looking for a lens that could cover a decent range of zoom, but on a slightly tighter budget than usual.

Amazing image quality for both stills and video. Captures plenty of detail even on the wide end. Filming 6K footage on the S5IIX the quality and rendition is amazing. Could not have expected anything better for the cost! Would definitely recommend.

Im a freelance camera operator/video editor. It was a toss up between this and the sigma 24-70. It was far too heavy for me so went with the 28-70. 4mm on the wide end is nothing. Great lens
