Asus ROG Strix G16 G614PM-S5004W

The Asus ROG Strix G16 is a competitive mid-tier performance laptop. It performs as expected from an AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX + RTX 5070Ti configuration, and runs cool and quietly with games and sustained work activities. It's also built well and offers good inputs, decent IO and a high-quality IPS matte display. But this series is built on the older Strix G16 and doesn't get the extras available on the Intel-based Strix G16 G615 lineups. Instead, its perks are the lighter weight and competitive pricing. A tradeoff worth considering.

The Asus Strix G16 G615 series is a competitive option in the space of 16-inch high-performance laptops for serious gaming and workloads. It's more affordable than the Strix Scar 16 lineup, as that offers a miniLED display, an arguably better keyboard and some extra design perks. But otherwise, it's the same chassis and functionality, and performs similarly. Just make sure you're OK with its particularities such as the keyboard layout and design or the fact that it is only available with matte IPS panels, and get it for the right price.

I'm disappointed, the letters on the keys are not very visible, backlit or not. The computer heats up a lot and the keyboard is warm all the time, which is rather worrying even though LDLC reassured me. For the rest, the power is there (3D, video editing, photo editing etc.) Let's hope the battery lasts.
