Asus Mesh system

I purchased the Asus XT12 dual pack to extend my existing Asus XT8 Mesh system to some outbuildings. I have used one of the XT12's as the main router and then push the XT8's out to the other building. With the installation made easy by just entering my existing setup into the XT12, all was pretty pain free and was soon up and running in the other building with great signal strength throughout my mesh system. Very pleased.

Expensive but if you need it, you need it.

Amazing. They're expensive units, especially when combined with the Asus ROG Router! I set mine up using their internal 10gb connections on a wired backbone to the Asus Rog router (via an unmanaged 10gb switch), the three combined into one big AI Mesh. Prior to install my signal upstairs (phone wifi) was 20-35~ mbps, now it's 985mbps solid (there is a mesh upstairs though so it's within 20ft). For the back of my house I was getting 65mbps, the mesh node is 1 very thick wall and 30ft away but I'm getting a consistent 845mbps. I won't lie, i had some real weird issues adding the nodes via the Asus Rog interface but it transpires I'd wired them into the LAN port instead of WAN port, after fixing that they added fine. Firmware updates were easy and they've been 100% solid since. The router and my nodes overlap considerably in terms of range but I've seen no issues with migrating between nodes as my signal degrades, overall I'm over the moon with their performance.

Asus ZenWiFi Pro XT12

Asus' ZenWiFi Pro XT12 towers are a very good, powerful mesh system. Performance is impressive – especially when measured across the mesh where there’s hardly any drop-off in speed. But while the features are packed in, the business options feel like they’re bolted-on to a consumer router rather than being dedicated to supporting an SMB’s core network. It’s expensive too, and looks just aren't enough to justify the premium.

ASUS ZenWiFi Pro XT12 Review (vs. XT8): A...

In terms of Wi-Fi performance and features, the ZenWiFi Pro XT12 is everything you’d wish the previous, the ZenWiFi XT8, had. On top of that, with an additional 2.5Gbps port, it now has the powerful Multi-Gig backhaul feature. That said, if you’re looking for a non-compromising Wi-Fi 6 system that will deliver the best possible Wi-Fi 6 performance in a completely wireless- or wired-backhauling setup, the ZenWFi Pro XT12 is an excellent buy at $799 for a 2-pack or $399 a single unit. This new hardware will last you well into the time when Wi-Fi 7 is available, and the use of the 6Ghz band is more meaningful than it is today. But if you want to enjoy 6GHz today and have a wired home (or one that only needs a single router), consider the ZenWiFi Pro ET12 instead.
