Picked this up after wanting to sort out home networking to match Gigabit fibre. I ordered the ER-4 after reading multiple positive reviews and guides on geekzone.co.nz Note this is pro bit of kit, not your normal home router - the UI is pretty easy, the command line more powerful but you do need to have an idea of what you are doing. That said, it is a lovely bit of kit, especially when used with other Ubiquity kit and managed via UNMS, their management UI/server. This is now available for free in the cloud if you have >10 bits of EdgeXXX kit. Or, like me you can run it on a server or VM (in FreeNAS). As mentioned in my other reviews - having the SFP port meant I could run Gigabit fibre around the house/garage which is sweet, has better distance than Cat5e/6 and is much more flexible.

Not the easiest router to set up, but should be do-able by anyone who has set a few different routers up in the past and understands basic routing rules and has the fundamentals down. This is surprisingly fast and has a ton of great features. We used it to replace a Checkpoint 4400 series router that had failed, and I think this router for less than 1/4 of the price of the Checkpoint, may be better!

It runs louder than my r710. I had to swap out the fans which are always on and never spin down with noctua fans. It is quiet now. I like the router, using UNMS with it now. It was the last item to get running to switch my house over to ubiquiti equipment. I'm glad i switched, much more control over my network. It is solidly built except for noisey fans. Power supply is just a brick that could be swapped out from internally instead of needing to solder in a new board like cisco devices.

Too hard to setup if you need it to just work. As hard as a Cisco and harder than a PFsense. I couldn't get it working. Sent it back.
