These provided a much closer cut than my previous Wahl Pro clippers, but those clippers could not be used without a guard or they would cut into your head. So, these clippers can definitely be used without a guard, but you will want to use a delicate touch or have some assistance. I've shaved my own head for 10+ years and still am not good enough at doing it on my own to avoid some pretty searing razor burn from these clippers. While I enjoy the nice close cut, I'll probably use the 1/2 guard if I'm going to do it myself. I'll reserve the guardless trims for when I have some assistance. One of the quietest models I've used and very little vibration.

My husband is an active duty Marine and shaves his head once weekly. He's been using the same pair of clippers forever, so I decided to surprise him for Father's Day. My hair dresser recommended these and oh boy, she was so right! He LOVES them! They are so quiet, I didn't even know he was shaving!! He gets up at 0330 to get ready for work and before, if he had to shave his head he would wake myself and our two children up. Now if he forgets to shave the night before, none of us are bothered. The closeness of the shave is something I'm extremely impressed by, as is he. It honestly looks like he was straight-razored at the barber's! The first time he used it, he didn't scrub his head first, and it shaved so closely that it took a layer of dead skin off. I recommend using some apricot scrub before you shave!

I've been shaving my head with Clippers and razors for 15 years. I've never had a Clipper cut closer than these. There is virtually no need to use a razor after using these. The only thing to be aware of is, you need to be very careful with these or they will cut you. If you keep them flat on the head and cut slow and careful they will bald your head with one take. No need to go over it and over it as you would with regular Clippers. These are 5 star Clippers. Just not for beginners.

These are the best clippers I have ever bought as far as closeness of shave. They actually cut the hair so close that I have stopped shaving my head with a razor in addition to buzzing. Interestingly, despite cutting so close, the width with which they cut each pass is also wider than I expected which is also great. As far as cutting the scalp, I've had no problems. I sure wouldn't use them to trim other parts of the body if you know what I mean, but as far as the scalp and even beard goes, these are great.

As for straight up sheering off hair, they are fantastic. Smooth and strong. No pulling of hair at all. Strong motor. Gets as close as you expect for electric blades. They are heavy. Not a problem if you are clipping someone else’s hair, but weighty if you are doing your own. They are noisy, but that’s to be expected because they are so powerful. If you are going for the bald look, these will get you started, but it’ll still require wet shaving if you want a clean, neat look. It’ll shave your head down to what would equate to about 3-4 days growth after wet shaving. This is a fine product, so don’t let my star rating deter you if you are using this to shave other people’s hair. My rating is based solely off the fact that I’m using it on myself and I prefer the clean wet shave look daily.
